Insect Pest Management

By Gus Lorenz, Distinguished Professor and Extension Entomologist

Thrips and tarnished plant bug are the biggest insect pests in cotton in Arkansas and the Midsouth. In this video, the extension entomology team of Gus Lorenz, Ben Thrash and Nick Bateman discuss sampling methods and control of thrips and tarnished plant bug, which is the number one insect pest of cotton.

Lorenz is a Distinguished Professor of entomology, associate department head of extension entomology and director of the Lonoke Agricultural Center. Thrash and Bateman are assistant professors and extension entomologists. Extension entomology research focuses primarily on insect pest management control options and ways that producers and consultants can improve control of insects while maintaining yields and maximizing profitability on their farms.
